Context-Based Art on the Hommelseweg with Jesper Pouw

A course with artisteducator Jesper Pouw for artists to develop socially engaged, context-based work.

Context-Based Art on Hommelseweg with Jesper Pouw

This course is for young artists (up to 30 years old) who are interested in working in a social context. We will dive into what the (political) meaning of art in society can be. What moves you as an artist? How can you connect with this world around you? And how to create issues-based art processes?

Within the course we will connect with certain theory as well as Klarendal, the context we’ll be working in. During the course you’ll develop an intervention/idea/project that you will be supported and inspired on by your peers.

Register for free participation

We ask for your full presence at all times, so please fill in the motivation form honestly. Register before Friday 17 April. You will receive a message from us on Thursday 23 April to let you know whether you can start.

Jesper Pouw

Jesper Pouw is an artisteducator working with theatre in diverse social contexts. He uses theatre and connection to explore identity through an issues-based approach. What kind of issues are alive in a community? How to reflect on them through a creative proces? Art and education are powerful tools for imagining new possibilities in a changing world.

Arnhem School of Social Arts

Arnhem School of Social Arts, or ASSA for short, was born out of the need to organise cultural education in a refreshing way, outside the classroom and in the heart of neighbourhoods. What started as a nice idea has now grown into a broad educational programme for social arts, bringing together education, art and society. By working together with teachers, artists, partners and policymakers, cultural education is being redesigned. Not only to learn about art, but above all to use art as a means to understand each other better. Will you join us?
